When the lights go out, imagination shines.
“Lights Out” is an international collaborative production project in nonverbal theater featuring artists from Japan and the Philippines.
Without relying on words, the production uses physical expression, sound, shadows, and silence to depict “resilience,” “imagination,” and “the power of community” for young audiences.
Building on workshops and physical theater experiments held in Okinawa in July 2025, artists from both countries are developing the production through ongoing dialogue and collaborative creation.
The night after a typhoon has passed.
A sudden power outage leaves three young people stranded in a pitch-black space.
With no lights and little food, and enveloped in anxiety, they pool their limited resources and try to find a way to get through the night.
Through games, improvisation, and physical communication exchanged in the darkness, fear slowly turns to curiosity, and loneliness transforms into connection.
And then they realize:
It wasn’t “light” that was truly illuminating them—it was each other’s very presence.
