The Role of Children/Youth Theater in Peacebuilding

  • N6 Okinawa Education Center, Irei Hall (4th floor)
  • Saturday 29th July
  • 10:00-12:00

It has been almost a year and a half since the start of the Russian invasion of Ukraine. There has been a constant flow of reports on the grim situation. This affects many children, causing them to question, worry about, and be sorrowed by the current state. We then ask ourselves: What potential does children or youth theater have in peacebuilding? At this symposium, we will have reports from the war-ravaged Ukraine and Myanmar, where the civil war has descended into a quagmire. We are also inviting two ASSITEJ International Executive Committee members from Belgium and South Korea, who are actively involved in the field of children/youth theater. Join us for a discussion on the role of children/youth theater in preventing conflicts and wars, as well as its role in supporting children and youth affected by these conflicts. Together, we will search for a glimmer of hope towards peacebuilding.
