Whiteout

Barrowland Ballet
Scotland
Focus on Scotland - Asian Premiere
Age: 11+| Duration: 50 mins| Non-verbal

A heartfelt work, informed by personal experiences giving resonance to the complexities of racial difference in a predominately white Britain.

Whiteout, a blizzard of falling snow that severely reduces visibility.

This is a heartfelt dance theatre piece, for children and young adults, which gives resonance to the complexities of bi-racial relationships. Informed by personal experiences from her marriage and as the mother of bi-racial children, acclaimed choreographer Natasha Gilmore (Little Red, Tiger and Tiger Tale), explores the dynamics of everyday inter-actions with honesty and humour.

Within the work the strength and fragility of relationships are revealed as they develop through the prism of society. With original pulsing, melodic music the six dance artists use their versatility of styles to create a visually exciting and physically dynamic work. At the heart of the piece is a film, with Gilmore’s young children dancing and improvising with the adults, celebrating the possibilities of the future.
