Asian TYA Network Programme 2019

Recently the recognition and interest in TYA (Theatre for Young Audiences) has been increasingly growing across many regions in Asia, whereby more arts organisations are starting activities for young people and new TYA festivals are launching.

Among Asian regions, especially Southeast Asia where countries economies have been developing rapidly, the role of TYA is anticipated to provide ways for children to nurture sensitivities and creative minds, even when facing difficult times and social problems, and such movements are seen to be developing already.

Since 2016, ricca ricca*festa has been working to establish and expand the network with TYA professionals in Southeast Asia as ‘Asian TYA Network Programme’ – with the aim to deepen understanding about the current situations and issues of TYA within countries and to explore the possibilities for future cooperation. The programme has organized various discussion and exchanges during the festival, as well as four research trips.

Over the last three years, the network has linked together many TYA practicioners in the region, encouraged self-motivating exchanges and developed to an open, practical network. The network has set its theme for 2019-2021 as ‘Building Audiences’ which will start a range of new activities. This years ricca ricca*festa plans to organise a new programme based on its research of various regions, as well as a seminar to introduce the network’s activities so far.
