The period since 2000 see not only theatre for young audiences (TYA) companies but also many contemporary theatre companies have come to produce theatrical performances for child and young audiences in Japan. Public theatres, such as city theatres and prefectural theatres, have been taking notice of the talents of these contemporary theatre artists and have come to work with them to produce plays for children and their families.
In this symposium, we pay an attention to this new movement. We invite members of staff of public theatres and learn about the characteristics and appeal of their TYA performances. It is sure that you will feel you want to visit public theatre more to watch TYA performances!
