‘Washita-jima Kodomo Art’ is a project by ACO Okinawa, the host organisation of ricca ricca*festa, which started in 2017 with the aim to bring performing arts experience to all children in Okinawa Prefecture.
Washita-jima means ‘Our Island’ in Okinawan dialect. Kodomo means ‘Children’ in Japanese.
This Summer, we are organising a tour of the festival production ‘What does Red do on Thursday?’ (Germany) across 5 places in Okinawa including remote islands, and also a symposium in Naha.
This is a project which is supported by many local volunteers in Okinawa.
We welcome everyone to join us, not only families to enjoy the performances but also those who are interested in performing arts for children and who want to be involved in cultural activities.

‘What Does Red Do On Thursday?’ (Thalias Kompagnons / Germany) will be presented across 5 places in Okinawa, including remote islands. In this production for over 4 year olds, the performer tells the story while drawing on stage. It inspires children’s imagination and shares the joy of drawing. Please check the details about the production and schedule in Naha and Ginoza here.
